Joseph Kosinski, the acclaimed director behind Top Gun: Maverick and Tron: Legacy, is reportedly set to helm a new Miami Vice movie for Universal, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Nightcrawler's writer-director, Dan Gilroy, is tasked with penning the script, building upon an initial draft by Top Gun: Maverick's screenwriter, Eric Warren Singer. Gilroy has recently been involved in writing multiple episodes of the Star Wars series Andor, created by his brother, Tony Gilroy.

Miami Vice is a groundbreaking NBC police series, crafted by Anthony Yerkovich and produced by Michael Mann. Airing from 1984 to 1989, the show starred Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas as detectives Crockett and Tubbs. The series revolutionized television with its unique style, visuals, and soundtrack, leaving a lasting impact on the industry.

Previously, the series was adapted into a feature film in 2006, directed by Michael Mann, with Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell in the lead roles.

Details about the upcoming Miami Vice film remain sparse. It's clear, however, that this won't be Kosinski's immediate next project following the release of his film F1 in June. This timeline should allow Kosinski ample opportunity to prepare, perhaps even selecting the perfect Ferrari for the film's signature style.
