Larian Studios has launched a Stress Test update to prepare for the highly anticipated Patch 8 for Baldur's Gate 3. This stress test is crucial to ensure the stability and performance of the upcoming patch. Dive into the details of the stress test, what it includes, and what to expect from Patch 8.
Patch 8 Stress Test Update 1 Arrives With Bug Fixes

Larian has released an update to the Patch 8 Stress Test build, addressing numerous bugs, crashes, and scripting errors. This update ensures that Gale correctly consumes magical items as intended. It's important to note that only participants in the Patch 8 stress test can download this update on their designated consoles. Those not involved in the testing phase will need to wait for the full, polished patch to experience all the new enhancements and content.
Key improvements in this update include ensuring that containers within inventories retain their contents even when destroyed, simplifying screenshot functionality in Photo Mode for Steam Deck users, enhancing pose responsiveness, improving cross-play functionality, updating the Booming Blade tooltip values, and resolving several crash issues. For a detailed list of all the enhancements, visit the official Baldur's Gate 3 website's news section.
As one of the last major feature-rich updates before Larian moves on from the world of Faerûn, Patch 8 is set to be a significant release, necessitating thorough stress testing. The patch will introduce platform cross-play, over 12 new subclasses including the Death Domain Cleric, Path of Giants Barbarian, and Arcane Archer Fighter, and the much-awaited Photo Mode.
Photo Mode Is As Customizable As It Can Be
While awaiting the official release of Patch 8, players can explore an in-depth sneak peek video that showcases how to maximize the potential of the upcoming Photo Mode. Larian aims to ensure that players can get the "Absolute most out of Photo Mode from the start."
Photo Mode is accessible almost anytime and anywhere—during adventures, in combat, and even in multiplayer sessions by the host player. You can arrange companions and characters in any pose you envision, with or without party members, and even include additional elements like a jumping frog that can take up half the screen. The free-moving camera adds to the flexibility, allowing players to capture the perfect angle.
After setting up your shot, you can enhance it with post-processing effects, stickers, and frames. However, during dialogues and cinematic cutscenes, you'll be limited to adding post-process effects and won't be able to adjust poses.
This sneak peek is just the beginning, as Larian plans to release a tips and tricks video to further inspire and guide players in unleashing their creativity through Photo Mode.
