Crossplay in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6: A Balancing Act
Cross-platform play has revolutionized online gaming, but it's not without its downsides. This guide explains how to disable crossplay in Black Ops 6 and the trade-offs involved.
The Crossplay Dilemma
Disabling crossplay in Black Ops 6 offers a potential advantage: a more level playing field. Console players often prefer to avoid PC players due to the inherent precision advantage of mouse and keyboard controls. Additionally, the prevalence of cheaters and hackers, even with anti-cheat measures like Ricochet, can be a significant concern. Disabling crossplay theoretically reduces the likelihood of encountering these issues.
However, there's a significant drawback. Restricting your matchmaking pool drastically increases the time it takes to find matches and can lead to less stable connections with other players.
How to Disable Crossplay in Black Ops 6
Disabling crossplay is relatively simple. Access the Account & Network settings. Locate the Crossplay and Crossplay Communications toggles near the top. Switch the setting from "On" to "Off" using X or A on your controller. This can be done within Black Ops 6, Warzone, or the main Call of Duty menu. Note that in the image, the setting is accessed via the Quick Settings menu after being added as a favorite.
Crossplay Restrictions
You may find the crossplay setting greyed out in certain game modes, such as Ranked Play. Previously, Call of Duty mandated crossplay in some modes, often with unintended consequences. However, Season 2 of Black Ops 6 allows for crossplay disabling in more game modes, giving players greater control over their matchmaking experience.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is currently available on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
