The open-world vampire RPG, The Blood of Dawnwalker, crafted by former CD Projekt Red (CDPR) developers, aims to deliver a level of quality comparable to The Witcher 3, but in a more compact package. Dive in to discover more about this eagerly anticipated game and hear directly from its directors.
The Blood Of Dawnwalker Aims For AAA Quality
30-40 Hour Main Campaign
In an interview with Games Radar, The Blood of Dawnwalker's creative director, Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, emphasized that despite being a smaller studio launching its debut game, the team is committed to achieving a level of excellence reminiscent of CD Projekt Red's The Witcher 3.
When questioned about where The Blood of Dawnwalker fits within the spectrum of indie and AAA games, Tomaszkiewicz responded, "In terms of quality, we definitely look at AAA, because this is where we are coming from, the quality level of The Witcher 3."
Although Rebel Wolves is a new studio, its team members are seasoned veterans, having previously worked at CDPR on The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz and his brother Konrad founded Rebel Wolves to enjoy greater creative freedom in their game development, free from the constraints of larger AAA studios like CDPR.
Tomaszkiewicz further explained, "Definitely, our games are not as huge in terms of amount of content and gameplay hours - we are a smaller studio, this is our first project, so we definitely are building something smaller. But we want to build something as robust in terms of quality, maybe a bit shorter." He highlighted that The Blood of Dawnwalker aims for a 30-40 hour campaign, which, while shorter than many AAA titles, does not detract from its quality. "If size is your measure, then yes it's not the size of a AAA like The Witcher. But I don't know if size is the measure, to be honest, because there are AAA games like Call of Duty that aren't 100+ hours gameplay campaigns. And I don't know if anyone would call them AA, or indie."
Set in the mystical realm of Vale Sangora, The Blood of Dawnwalker is a narrative-driven, open-world dark fantasy RPG. Players will embody Coen, a young peasant who gains vampiric powers after an encounter with one of the land’s most formidable vampires. Coen's journey is driven by a personal mission to save his ailing sister from a fatal illness, navigating the dark and hostile environment along the way.
While a specific release date has not been announced, the game is expected to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. A gameplay reveal is scheduled for Summer 2025, offering fans their first glimpse into this intriguing new world.
