Firaxis Games Postpones First In-Game Event for Civilization 7
Civilization 7 (Civ 7) has decided to delay its first in-game event to prioritize crucial quality-of-life improvements. Firaxis Games announced this change in their update check-in on February 28, 2025, along with a Development Roadmap outlining upcoming enhancements for Civ 7.
Scheduled for release on March 4, 2025, across PC and consoles, with a separate timing for Nintendo Switch, Update 1.1.0 was initially set to introduce the game's first event, the Natural Wonder Battle. However, Firaxis Games has chosen to postpone this event to focus on enhancing the player experience. "Although our first in-game Event, Natural Wonder Battle, was originally planned for Update 1.1.0 on March 4, events are now being postponed to a later update to allow us more time to prioritize quality-of-life improvements for players worldwide. We’ll share more details about the first in-game event once we’re ready," the team stated.
Since its early access launch, Civ 7 has received mixed reviews, with players expressing concerns about the game's UI. Acknowledging this feedback, Firaxis Games has committed to ongoing improvements. "We are aware of and looking into feedback on the game's UI," they noted, adding, "We're continuing to make improvements to Civilization 7, and appreciate you taking the time to drop your feedback."
Update 1.1.0 Will Address Community Feedback
The upcoming Update 1.1.0 for Civ 7 will directly respond to community feedback and suggestions. While the complete update notes will be released at launch, Firaxis Games has provided a preview of what players can expect.
A new natural wonder, the Bermuda Triangle, will be added for players to explore at no additional cost. The much-awaited UI adjustments will also be implemented, addressing players' concerns. Additionally, significant updates to the Modern Age's Cultural Legacy Path and Victory conditions will be made, with AI leaders now better equipped to achieve a Cultural Victory.
Alongside these improvements, the first half of the paid Crossroads of the World Collection will be available. "Players who own either of those editions, or have purchased the Crossroads of the World Collection separately, will receive this content automatically with Update 1.1.0," the post explains.
Next Major Update Slated for March 25, 2025
The commitment to enhancing Civilization 7 continues with the next major update planned for March 25, 2025, although this date may be subject to change. This update will further refine the game's UI, as Firaxis emphasizes, "Ongoing improvements to the User Interface continues to be a top priority for the development team. The updates being introduced on March 25 are just one part of a much larger plan that aims to improve the UI over the next several months."
Looking beyond March, Civ 7 aims to introduce various improvements and new features, including a "one more turn" option to extend gameplay past the Modern Age, auto-explore functionality, new map sizes for PC and consoles (excluding Switch), enhancements in multiplayer support, and more.
Firaxis Games is actively working on these enhancements, stating, "We’re in the process of scoping the work necessary to bring these priorities to the game as soon as we can. Some of these will be delivered as early as April (subject to change), though many will take longer to develop, test, and deploy. As always in development, plans can change and we'll have more details to share here in the weeks and months ahead as plans solidify. We appreciate your continued patience in the meantime!"
