Side quests in video games can range from delightful to downright perplexing, and "In Vino Veritas" in *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2* is no exception. This quest involves a series of intricate steps and even a side quest within a side quest. Let's break down how to navigate through this engaging adventure.
Speak with Casper and Havel

To kick off "In Vino Veritas," you'll need to find Casper Rudolf near his drink cart on the east side of Kuttenberg City. Just enter through the east gate and proceed straight ahead, and you'll bump into him. Casper is curious about the secret behind the monks' renowned wine, but first, you need to gather some information. Make sure to exhaust all dialogue options with Casper to learn about Havel and the book he left with Adleta. This will give you multiple approaches to impress Havel in the initial phase of the quest.
If you choose to retrieve the book from Adleta, head to the southeast corner of Kuttenberg's inner wall during the morning or afternoon. There, you'll find an open garden where Adleta spends her time. Before you go, pick up five Marigolds. You'll need to either find Adleta before her brother Hugo arrives or obtain Hugo's permission to talk to her. During your conversation, be kind and mention that you need the book for Casper. You can either pass a skill check to convince her to give it to you or offer the Marigolds as a gift in exchange for the book. Once you have it, read the book from your inventory.
Alternatively, if you decide to skip the book, you can go directly to Havel at his inn in Kuttenberg City. Make sure to hone your drinking skills and wear an outfit that boosts your Charisma to at least 18. When talking to Havel, select these dialogue options:
- Germany. Let’s do it.
- That’s a very fine gift.
- Steinberger.
- It’s missing ginger.
With these choices, you'll impress Havel, and he'll share the secret ingredient of the monastery's wine. Return to Casper with this newfound knowledge.

Next, you'll need to visit the vineyard north of Kuttenberg. Speak to the recruiter there to start the "Under the Straw Hat" side quest. Although you don't need to complete it, starting it allows you to explore the vineyard without being considered a trespasser. Inside, find Jerome, who is usually sitting on a bench near the main building.

Once at the main building, sneak inside, turn left, and head to the storeroom. Use your lockpicking skills to open the chests and find the Sulphur Wicks, which are crucial for Casper. For some extra Groschen, visit the garden behind the main building and take five seedlings before you leave.
If you decide to complete "Under the Straw Hat," you'll need to perform tasks such as removing plants around the vines and moving sacks. After completing enough work, report back to Jerome to finish the side quest and earn some Groschen. Otherwise, return to Casper with the Sulphur Wicks and the seedlings, if you collected them.
With that, you'll have successfully completed "In Vino Veritas" in *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2*. You can now move on to other quests or perhaps take a break to collect badges and dice.
