Should You Fight Lu Bu in Dynasty Warriors: Origins?

Engaging Lu Bu in Dynasty Warriors: Origins is a daunting endeavor. From personal experience, it took over an hour to conquer this legendary warrior. However, there are compelling reasons to take him on. Firstly, defeating Lu Bu earns you bragging rights, a true mark of honor among players. Secondly, if you align with Shu or Wei, you'll be forced to confront him during the Battle of Xiapi in Chapter 4. Lastly, triumphing over him at the Battle of Hulao Gate not only grants you the "The Strongest" trophy but also unlocks the game's ultimate weapon, the halberd, in the post-game, providing a strong incentive to challenge him.

Lu Bu’s First Phase

Before battling Lu Bu, ensure you're equipped with the right gear. A weapon like a sword that can deliver multiple hits and stagger him is essential. Choose Battle Arts that require minimal Bravery, activate quickly, and have a wide range. I used Falcon Flurry, Mad Blade Rush, Absconding Slash, and Flying Dragon Slash. Accessories such as Divine Bird’s Wing and Divine Turtle’s Shell, which boost health and defense, are crucial since Lu Bu’s attacks can severely deplete your health. Additionally, select a weapon with a skill that grants Bravery for each Perfect Evade, as this will be key to maintaining your Bravery during the fight.

Initially, Lu Bu will be mounted on Red Hare. This phase involves him charging around the battlefield. He's fast but will occasionally pause, providing an opportunity to strike with your Battle Arts before retreating. His attacks generally have a limited area of effect, except when Red Hare leaps and crashes down, making dodging relatively manageable. Once his health drops to 80%, Lu Bu dismounts, and the real battle begins.

Lu Bu’s Second Phase

Lu Bu grabbing the Wanderer in Dynasty Warriors: OriginsOn foot, Lu Bu becomes even more formidable. His swift attacks and rapid movement across the battlefield are challenging. When he's enveloped in a red aura, he's immune to staggering and breaking out of his combos. Be ready to evade his charges, which come in sets of three. If he charges without his spear, he's attempting to grab you, which can drastically reduce your health, but it's easily avoidable like his other charges.

His most lethal move is signaled by an orange glow. With minimal preparation time, he launches three massive arrows three times, capable of juggling and devastating your health. Equip a Battle Art like Absconding Slash to cancel this attack from a distance; close-range options like Palm Strike will lead to instant defeat. Keep your Musou gauge charged for emergency invincibility, which can be a lifesaver if you miss a dodge or get caught in a combo.

Fortunately, Lu Bu is easier to juggle in this phase. Hitting him with consecutive attacks quickly charges your Battle Arts, helping to break his Fortitude meter. Stay close to react better to his moves, and remember to evade frequently.

Lu Bu’s Final Phase

As Lu Bu's health diminishes, he enters Musou Rage, marking the final phase. Now unstaggered, he unleashes a relentless barrage of attacks. Your objective is to deplete his Fortitude before he executes his Musou attack. Use everything at your disposal: activate your Musou attacks, deploy Battle Arts, and strike rapidly. If he completes his Musou Attack, he'll immediately reactivate it, forcing you to restart the phase. Breaking his Fortitude here will finally allow you to defeat this legendary adversary.

And that's how to conquer Lu Bu in Dynasty Warriors: Origins! Dynasty Warriors: Origins is now available for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
