Dune: Awakening, the highly anticipated open-world survival MMO inspired by Frank Herbert's iconic sci-fi novels and Denis Villeneuve's films, has been postponed to June 10, 2025. Funcom, the game's developer, announced this delay but also offered a silver lining for eager fans: those who purchase the Deluxe Edition or Ultimate Edition can dive into the game early on June 5.

Explaining the delay, Funcom cited feedback from their ongoing Persistent Closed Beta, stating that the additional time will allow the team to "cook" the game further. This extended development period will also enable them to implement crucial changes identified during the beta phase. Moreover, the delay paves the way for a "large-scale beta weekend next month," giving even more players the chance to experience Dune: Awakening and provide valuable feedback.
While this news might be disappointing for those eager to explore Arrakis, Funcom is set to host a combat livestream today at 12pm ET/9am PT. This event will delve into the game's PvP and PvE mechanics, archetypes, and skills, offering fans a deeper look into what they can expect.
At IGN, we're thrilled about Dune: Awakening. As we mentioned in our hands-on preview, "It's easy to be skeptical about an MMO survival game set in the Dune universe, but after experiencing bouts of dehydration and sunstroke, my day in Arrakis convinced me that Dune: Awakening is definitely one to watch."
