The iconic strategy game, ROME: Total War, has just received a significant free update on Android, courtesy of Feral Interactive. Dubbed the Imperium Update, it introduces an array of gameplay tweaks, enhanced controls, and quality-of-life improvements to enrich the player experience. If you're among the fans who have been enjoying this classic since its Android debut in 2018, you're in for a treat with these new enhancements. Furthermore, fans of the standalone expansions, Barbarian Invasion and Alexander, can look forward to the same update rolling out next week.
What Does the Imperium Update Bring to ROME: Total War?
The Imperium Update borrows some of the finest features from Feral Interactive's more recent mobile titles, such as Total War: MEDIEVAL II and EMPIRE. It introduces three innovative control options to ROME: Total War: Positioning Mode, Melee Mode, and Automatic Deselection. These new modes enhance your control over units, allowing for more precise and strategic battles. Now, you can easily move your armies, agents, or fleets by simply tapping and holding, eliminating the need to manually drag paths.
Positioning Mode enables you to meticulously adjust unit placements with a tap-and-hold mechanism, while the Group Grid feature streamlines the management of unit groups through a collapsible selection menu. Melee Mode is a game-changer, allowing ranged units to seamlessly transition into close combat when the situation demands it.
One of the most notable additions is Command Slowdown, which automatically slows the game's pace when you're issuing complex orders, making it easier to strategize effectively. Additionally, for the first time, ROME: Total War on Android (and iPad) now supports keyboard and mouse inputs, offering players even more flexibility in their gameplay.
The minimap has also undergone a redesign, drawing inspiration from the one in MEDIEVAL II. It boasts smoother zooming and navigation, along with a new reset button that allows for a quick return to the default view, enhancing your overall gameplay experience.
The Imperium Update is now available for all ROME: Total War players on Android. You can download it directly from the Google Play Store. Keep an eye out for the updates coming to Barbarian Invasion and Alexander next week, as they promise to bring the same level of improvements to these expansions.
