Fallout 76 Season 20 introduces a thrilling new feature: players can now transform into Ghouls in the radiation-infested wasteland of Appalachia. Fallout 76 Season 20 Out Now

Unleash the Ghoul Within

Bethesda announced on March 18 that Fallout 76 Season 20 is live, offering players the chance to undergo Ghoulification through the "Leap of Faith" questline. This journey takes you to a new section of the Savage Divide, where you'll meet unique characters who aid in your transformation. As a Ghoul, you'll gain exclusive abilities like Glow and Feral, along with access to 30 new Ghoul-exclusive Perks, or "Gherks."

The Feral ability replaces traditional hunger and thirst mechanics, providing boosts based on the Feral meter's status. At 0%, you'll experience dramatic gameplay changes, including a massive +150% Melee Damage boost but at the cost of reduced Endurance, Charisma, Max HP, Max AP, and severe penalties to Hip-fire and V.A.T.S. accuracy.

On the other hand, the Glow ability lets you consume radiation, granting immunity to diseases and mutations, and even causing you to emit a glow. This ability not only increases your maximum health and heals damage but also enhances the effectiveness of Ghoul-exclusive Perks.

With 28 perks to choose from and two new legendary perks designed specifically for Ghouls, your gameplay can be tailored to your new Ghoul identity. Keep in mind, though, that perks related to Hunger, Thirst, and Chem Resistance are off-limits as Ghouls don't need them.

A Day In The Life of A Ghoul

As a Ghoul, navigating the radioactive wasteland becomes more manageable thanks to your new Gherks and abilities. However, be prepared for hostility from factions like the Brotherhood of Steel, which may lock you out of certain questlines. Fortunately, a new NPC named Jaye can provide disguises to bypass these restrictions and access content otherwise unavailable to Ghouls.

If the Ghoul life doesn't suit you, you can revert to being human via the Character Screen. This change is permanent, and while you can't redo the Leap of Faith questline, you can purchase Ghoul Retransformation for 1000 Atoms.

New and veteran players alike can now accelerate their progress with the Level 50 Character Boost, available for 1500 Atoms. This boost helps you dive straight into multiplayer features like Daily Ops and Public Events, as well as some story content.

The Season 20 update also includes numerous bug fixes, balance adjustments, accessibility enhancements, combat tweaks, and weapon damage modifications. Bethesda has also teased the upcoming "The Big Bloom" update, set for April 29, as part of their season calendar.

Since its launch in November 2018, Fallout 76 has overcome initial challenges to earn a "Mostly Positive" rating on Steam, with 76% of reviews being favorable. The game is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
