Aspyr's upcoming release of Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles for modern consoles features a surprising new playable character: Jar Jar Binks. A recently released trailer showcases Jar Jar wielding a large staff in action-packed gameplay.
This isn't the only addition to the original 2000 release's roster. Aspyr has already revealed nine other new playable characters, with more promised before launch. The updated game aims to recapture the nostalgia of the original while adding modern features like customizable lightsaber colors and cheat code support.
The trailer highlights Jar Jar's signature chaotic personality and combat style, dispelling any hopes of a Darth Jar Jar-esque red lightsaber wielding character. Instead, he utilizes a staff for combat, accompanied by his characteristically clumsy voice lines.
Newly Revealed Playable Characters:
- Jar Jar Binks
- Rodian
- Flame Droid
- Gungan Guard
- Destroyer Droid
- Ishi Tib
- Rifle Droid
- Staff Tusken Raider
- Weequay
- Mercenary
This diverse range of new characters includes fan favorites like the Staff Tusken Raider and Rodian, alongside various droid types. The inclusion of both Jar Jar Binks and the Gungan Guard expands the Gungan representation in the game.
With the release date of January 23rd fast approaching, fans can pre-order the game now and soon experience these exciting additions firsthand. Aspyr's past experience remastering classic Star Wars titles, such as Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, gives hope for a successful and satisfying update to Jedi Power Battles.
