After an intensive three-year development period focused on incorporating player feedback and squashing bugs, Longvinter has triumphantly exited early access on Steam with the launch of its much-anticipated version 1.0. The developers have proudly announced this significant milestone, unveiling a suite of updates that promise to reinvigorate the experience for both new players and dedicated fans alike.
The standout feature of this update is the introduction of oil rigs scattered across the game's archipelago. Players now have the opportunity to extract oil, refine it into fuel, and engage in thrilling battles against mercenaries from the Longvinter Resources Incorporated (LRI), who control crucial supply lines. Adding to the excitement, new events such as helicopter crashes have been implemented, providing opportunities to scavenge for tactical gear. Additionally, an underground arena offers hourly battles where players can vie for valuable rewards, further enhancing the dynamic gameplay.
The game world itself has been enriched with the addition of new wildlife, including lynxes, wolves, wolverines, foxes, moose, and goats, which players can now tame as mounts. The update also brings a plethora of new items to the game, such as hats that offer buffs, combat vests, a range of weapons and explosives, new kitchen recipes, and interactive objects for building and decorating. These include oil refineries, refrigerators, microwaves, power poles, and defensive turrets. Moreover, significant adjustments have been made to weapon balance, ensuring a more competitive and engaging experience.
Looking forward, the upcoming 1.1 update is set to introduce farming mechanics, a revamped tutorial tailored for beginners, apartment rentals, and shared community spaces. In a move to expand its player base, the developers have also confirmed that Longvinter will make its debut on PlayStation in 2026, marking its first venture beyond the PC platform.
