Marvel Rivals Players Risk Bans

Summary

  • NetEase Games has warned Marvel Rivals players that modding the game could lead to permanent account bans, as it violates the terms of service.
  • Season 1 introduced new heroes and attempted to deter modding, but modders quickly found workarounds.
  • It remains unclear whether NetEase Games has issued any bans for modding Marvel Rivals yet.

NetEase Games, the developer and publisher behind the popular team shooter Marvel Rivals, has issued a stern warning to its player base: modding the game in any capacity could result in a permanent ban. This stance applies to all modifications, whether they're cosmetic hero mods or gameplay-altering add-ons, as they contravene the game's terms of service.

This announcement follows the launch of Season 1 for Marvel Rivals, which not only introduced gameplay adjustments such as Hero buffs and nerfs but also added Invisible Woman and Mister Fantastic from the Fantastic Four to the roster. Fans can look forward to the arrival of the other two members, Human Torch and The Thing, in upcoming updates. Since its debut in December 2024, Marvel Rivals has captured the hearts of Marvel Comics enthusiasts and team shooter aficionados alike, earning a nomination for Online Game of the Year at the DICE Awards 2025, set to take place on February 13 in Las Vegas.

Despite NetEase Games' efforts to curb modding in Season 1, some players have managed to bypass these measures. A notable example is an add-on on Nexus Mods, crafted by a user named Prafit, which evades a system that checks asset hashes to detect modifications. Prafit has cautioned that users who download this mod do so at their own risk, recommending it only for those with high-end PCs. In the wake of Prafit's workaround, another mod surfaced on social media, allowing players to transform Mister Fantastic into Luffy from One Piece, created by a user named Ercuallo and highlighted in a video by RivalsLeaks on Twitter.

Marvel Rivals Warns Users to Stop Modding or Risk Bans

While it's unclear if NetEase Games has yet enforced bans for modding, the company has reiterated that such actions violate the game's terms of service. Although some mods, including one featuring US President-elect Donald Trump, have been taken down from Nexus Mods, Prafit's Season 1 workaround remains available, having garnered over 500 downloads at the time of this report.

The game has experienced issues with false bans since its launch, but NetEase Games has clearly communicated the risks associated with modding. The community now awaits to see how NetEase Games will address this ongoing issue.
