Minecraft Movie's Funniest Scene Inspired by The NeverEnding Story

Minor spoilers ahead for A Minecraft Movie.

The creative minds behind A Minecraft Movie shared with IGN that one of the film's most humorous scenes drew inspiration from The NeverEnding Story. In this memorable moment, Jack Black's character, Steve, finds himself in a precarious situation, having to climb onto Jason Momoa's character, Garrett, to avoid a perilous fall. With only enough Elytra wings for Garrett and Sebastian Hansen's Henry, Steve's antics as he scrambles around Garrett provide a rich vein of physical comedy.

Play"We definitely wanted to capture a Falkor moment from *The Neverending Story*—one that's majestic and beautiful, yet quickly turns chaotic," explained director Jared Hess.

"It was hilarious during the breaks between takes," added producer Torfi Frans Ólafsson. "Jack was perched on top of Jason in this intricate rig, and he'd start singing The NeverEnding Story while pretending to ride Jason like Falkor."

This scene serves as a delightful nod to Jack Black's role as Slip in The NeverEnding Story 3, adding another layer of fun for fans. Jason Momoa played a significant role in bringing this comedic sequence to life.

"I contributed to writing that part, and Jack was all in," Momoa said with a chuckle. "After Top Gun: Maverick, I wanted to incorporate a similar stunt where I'd hit the brakes and Jack would slide off. We were brainstorming in the hotel, and it was just too good not to include in the movie."

Jack Black mentioned, "There were different versions of the scene, and it could have been more adult-oriented, but we kept it family-friendly in the final cut."

"Let my hips guide you! You can't just ride me like I'm majestic," Momoa exclaimed. "I was dying, man. I was dying."
