Nintendo Switch 2 Preorders Begin in UK on Amazon

Author : Nova Apr 18,2025

Amazon UK has now opened preorders for the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 to the general public, dropping its previous invite-only system. You can secure your preorder today, and the best part is that Amazon won't charge you until the console ships. This no-charge-until-shipment policy makes it a low-risk option for ensuring you get your hands on the console. Initially, some users saw a delivery estimate of June 7th, but Amazon support has since confirmed this was an error. The current plan remains for a launch day delivery on June 5th.

In contrast to the situation in the US, where preorders have been delayed due to tariff uncertainties, UK preorders are proceeding smoothly with no reported price increases or delays. Interestingly, some US users have managed to preorder the Switch 2 from the UK using international shipping, though success may vary. Argos has restocked Switch 2 preorders today, April 8, in the UK, offering not just the console but also games and accessories. If you missed out previously, now's your chance to lock in your preorder without any hassle.

Nintendo's official UK preorders also kicked off today, but retailers like EE, GAME, and Smyths have already sold out quickly. Unfortunately, this has led to scalpers listing the console at inflated prices on eBay. For a reliable option, Amazon and Argos appear to be the best bets for securing a Switch 2 in the UK.

In IGN's preview of the Nintendo Switch 2, Logan Plant shared his insights: "Switch 2 is a more premium product, and the price reflects that. It’s a better version of a great thing, trying to pull off cool new tricks like mouse controls. We're both eager to buy it on day one, and our hands-on time with the console was fantastic. However, I'm concerned about whether the general public is willing to adopt a $450 Nintendo console with an $80 Mario Kart."

"It’s a significant investment for a company traditionally targeting families and younger players, and I worry that the high cost of entry might limit the Switch 2’s potential to take off as its predecessor did. But for those willing to invest, you'll get a great hybrid console with worthwhile improvements and fun new features."

Play35% Off NSO Expansion Pack Memberships --------------------------------------

One of the standout features of the Nintendo Switch 2 is the exclusive online library that includes GameCube games. To help ease the cost of these memberships, UK retailer ShopTo is currently offering a 35% discount on NSO Expansion Pack memberships, with an additional 5% off using the code SPRING at checkout. This is a fantastic opportunity to complement your Switch 2 preorders.

While the base online subscription unlocks some Nintendo Classics, the Expansion Pack is required to play GameCube titles on the Nintendo Switch 2. Note that the Expansion Pack is only available on a 12-month plan. If you're the only Nintendo Switch player in your household, you can opt for the individual Online + Expansion Pack plan at £24.55 or the Family Membership at £43.55 using the promo code SPRING.

In a surprising move, Nintendo has delayed the start of Switch 2 preorders in the United States just days before they were set to go live. This decision is due to ongoing tariff concerns and what the company describes as "evolving market conditions"—a nod to the potential reinstatement of Trump-era import duties on electronics.

Preorders were initially scheduled to begin on April 9 in the US, but Nintendo has postponed them indefinitely. No new date has been announced, yet the company reassures fans that the global release date of the Switch 2—June 5, 2025—remains unchanged.

Nintendo's official statement to IGN reads: "Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9, 2025, in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions. Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025, is unchanged."

This preorder freeze currently affects only the US market. UK preorders remain on track, with no changes to pricing or availability. In fact, retailers like Amazon UK are actively sending out preorder invitations, while launch-day stock is already dwindling at major outlets.

Nintendo has confirmed that the Switch 2 will be priced at $449.99 USD, with the Mario Kart World bundle, which includes the full game, priced at $499.99 USD. Mario Kart World will also be available separately for $79.99 USD.

PlaySwitch 2 UK Preorder News -------------------------

If you're hesitant to pay upfront, Amazon remains your best option in the UK. While retailers like Argos require immediate payment upon preorder, Amazon won't charge you until the console ships, making it a safer choice for those planning their budget. The invite system at Amazon seems to operate on a random ballot, ensuring everyone has a fair chance.

For preorders at the Nintendo Store, access is limited to long-time Nintendo Switch Online subscribers with high playtimes and shared usage data. In contrast, Amazon's system is more accessible. Currys and Smyths are also expected to offer more preorder opportunities later through email alerts and queue systems, similar to their approach during the PS5 launch.

With Currys and Smyths, you'll likely receive an email when preorders open, followed by a queued ordering system. This method worked well during the PS5 preorders without causing site crashes. While you might have to wait longer with these retailers, it's less frustrating if you don't meet the stringent requirements for ordering directly from Nintendo.
