During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo unveiled exciting news for fans: nearly the entire Nintendo Switch library will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. Moreover, select titles are set to receive enhanced "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" versions, packed with unique features. Highlighted games include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Mario Party: Jamboree.

Each Nintendo Switch 2 Edition game boasts distinct enhancements. The showcase kicked off with Super Mario Party: Jamboree, introducing the "Jamboree TV" upgrade. This includes innovative mouse controls, audio recognition, enhanced rumble feedback, and gameplay integrated with a new camera accessory.

Next up were The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, both upgraded with higher resolution, improved framerates, and HDR support. Additionally, they'll benefit from a new feature on the Nintendo Switch Online app called Zelda Notes. This service offers voice guidance to locate Shrines and Koroks and enables players to share their creations in Tears of the Kingdom using QR codes.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is slated for a new story exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2, titled Star-Crossed World, along with graphical and framerate enhancements.

Two anticipated titles, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends: Z-A, will also receive upgraded versions. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will feature mouse control support, 4K resolution at 60fps, and HDR. Meanwhile, Pokemon Legends: Z-A will see improvements in resolution and framerate.

These upgraded games will be available in both physical and digital formats. Owners of the original versions on the Nintendo Switch can purchase upgrade packs for select titles, including Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party, and Kirby.

The presentation also touched on third-party titles receiving Nintendo Switch 2 Editions, such as Civilization 7, which will feature mouse support, and Street Fighter 6, which will introduce exclusive game modes.

The buzz about "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" games started last week with a subtle mention on a webpage. This footnote related to the newly announced Virtual Game Card system noted that these upgraded games would not be transferable via Virtual Game Card to the original Nintendo Switch.
