Ever since the announcement of the upcoming DLC for Lies of P, titled Overture, fans have been buzzing with excitement and speculation about the mysteries it might unveil. At the recent Game Developers Conference, IGN uncovered some intriguing details, including confirmation that the base game's surprising final cutscene will not be explained in the DLC.
For those yet to experience the end of Lies of P, here's a spoiler-free summary: the game concludes with a cutscene that hints at potential future directions for the Lies of P universe. This scene has sparked a flurry of fan theories about its implications and possible connections to upcoming content. However, Lies of P director Jiwon Choi clarified that this particular cutscene is not related to the Overture DLC. He teased, "Please stay tuned for additional announcements in the future."

Neowiz has also confirmed a full sequel to Lies of P is in development, leading many to speculate that the mysterious cutscene might be setting the stage for Lies of P 2. Unfortunately, Choi remained tight-lipped about the sequel during our discussion, emphasizing Neowiz's commitment to quality: “What I can certainly tell you is when we share such news or media and assets with you, you'll know for sure that we are ready to present it to you. And that follows very our strict focus on quality [amid] all the pressure that we talked about in the past. So that is the one promise that I can share with you, that when we actually share those contents with you and the news, we will be ready to share that with you.”

The cutscene in question, which we discussed with Choi, is the infamous Dorothy scene. As detailed in our previous coverage, the final cutscene shows Paracelcus on a phone call, mentioning he will “find her, for sure. Another key of ours: Dorothy.” The scene then reveals the iconic striped sock legs and ruby slippers of Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz, suggesting that future narratives in the Lies of P universe might weave in other public domain fairy tales. However, Choi confirmed this won't be explored in Overture.SPOILERS END HERE.
While the Dorothy mystery remains unsolved, Choi did provide some tantalizing hints about what fans can expect from the Overture DLC. He encouraged players to replay the base game, pointing out that it contains clues about the upcoming content: “When you play through the base game again, you'll see many hints that we scattered throughout the whole experience,” Choi explained. “A lot of hints and a lot of windows into the world, and you'll be able to actually see that and experience that in the expansion…There are many things that I actually wanted to accomplish when we were working on the base game. It didn't get put into the base game, and all of that, at least key elements of that are going to be included in the expansion.”Concept art for Lies of P: Overture
Choi also noted that some fans are already piecing together the puzzle, as he frequently reads online theories and finds that "some of them are quite close." Additionally, he revealed that the DLC is expected to take experienced players around 15-20 hours to complete. It will be accessible after reaching a "certain" chapter of the game and can be played up until the end. As previously announced, Overture serves as a prequel, with the protagonist being transported back in time to Krat just before its fall. The expansion will introduce new locations, enemies, bosses, characters, and weapons, though Choi kept the specifics under wraps for the upcoming release.
