Palworld's Future on Switch Remains Uncertain
No Concrete Plans from Pocketpair
In a recent interview, Mizobe discussed the difficulties of bringing Palworld to the Switch, citing technical limitations stemming from the game's demanding PC specifications. While discussions about potential new platforms are ongoing, Pocketpair currently has no announcements to make regarding a Switch release.
Despite the challenges, Mizobe remains hopeful about expanding Palworld's reach to other platforms. He previously acknowledged the significant performance difference between the PC and Switch versions, highlighting the technical hurdles. Future platform possibilities remain unspecified, encompassing PlayStation, Nintendo, and mobile. Earlier this year, Mizobe confirmed explorations into bringing Palworld to additional platforms. He also clarified that while open to partnerships and acquisitions, Pocketpair hasn't engaged in buyout discussions with Microsoft.
Expanding Multiplayer: An 'Ark' or 'Rust' Vision
Mizobe also shared his vision for enhanced multiplayer elements. An upcoming arena mode, described as an experiment, will pave the way for more extensive multiplayer experiences. His goal is a full-fledged PvP mode, drawing inspiration from the gameplay of Ark and Rust, known for their challenging environments, deep resource management, and robust player interaction mechanics, including alliances and tribes.
Since its launch, Palworld, Pocketpair's creature-collecting and survival shooter, has gained significant traction. The game's first month saw 15 million PC copies sold, and it also attracted 10 million players on Xbox via Game Pass. A major update, the free Sakurajima update, is scheduled for release this Thursday, introducing a new island, the highly anticipated PvP arena, and more.
