After the recent acquisition of Pokémon Go developer Niantic by Scopely, the company behind Monopoly Go, fans have expressed significant concerns ranging from fears of increased advertising to worries about data privacy. However, a reassuring interview with Michael Steranka, a product director at Niantic, featured on Polygon, aims to alleviate these concerns.
During the interview, Steranka praised Scopely and emphasized a shared vision between the two companies. He confidently stated that Scopely would not introduce intrusive ads into Pokémon Go, addressing one of the primary worries among the game's community.
On the crucial topic of data privacy, Steranka was unequivocal: Niantic would not share or sell player data to third parties. He concluded the interview by reassuring fans that the transition to working under Scopely would have minimal impact on Niantic's team and operations.

If it ain't broke...
While there may be some apprehension about corporate influence, I personally believe Scopely will maintain a hands-off approach with Pokémon Go. The game has been, and continues to be, highly successful. The more significant business development appears to be Niantic's new spin-off team, which is focused on expanding the use of augmented reality (AR) technology.
Steranka also highlighted the close involvement of The Pokémon Company in the decision-making process for Pokémon Go. This suggests that any actions The Pokémon Company would not approve of are unlikely to occur now or in the future.
