Sony has rolled out an exciting new beta update for the PlayStation 5, building on the recent introduction of URL linking for game sessions. Dive into the details of this update and discover how you can get involved.
Sony Unveils New PS5 Beta Update with Personalized 3D Audio and More
Hiromi Wakai, Sony's VP of Product Management, shared the news on PlayStation.Blog that a new beta update for the PS5 is now available. This update introduces personalized 3D audio profiles, enhanced Remote Play settings, and adaptive charging for controllers.A highlight of the update is the personalized 3D audio profiles for headphones and earbuds. This feature lets users tailor their audio experience to their unique hearing characteristics, enhancing immersion and allowing for better in-game sound localization. By using devices like the Pulse Elite wireless headset or Pulse Explore wireless earbuds, players can run sound quality tests to create an audio profile that matches their hearing. This promises to take the gaming experience to a new level.

The update also improves Remote Play settings, giving users greater control over who can access their PS5 remotely. This is especially handy for homes with multiple PS5 users, as the primary user can limit access to specific individuals. You can manage this by navigating to [Settings] > [System] > [Remote Play] > [Enable Remote Play], and selecting the users allowed remote access.
For those using the latest, slimmer PS5 model, the update introduces adaptive charging for controllers. This feature optimizes power usage by adjusting the charging duration based on the controller's battery level during rest mode. To enable adaptive charging, go to [Settings] > [System] > [Power Saving] > [Features Available in Rest Mode], and choose [Supply Power to USB Ports] > [Adaptive]. This ensures efficient energy use by stopping the power supply to the USB port after a certain period if no controller is connected.
Global Release and Beta Participation
While the beta is currently limited to invited participants in the U.S., Canada, Japan, U.K., Germany, and France, Sony plans to roll out the update globally in the coming months. Invited participants will receive an email invitation with instructions on how to download and participate in the beta. Keep in mind that some features may not make it to the final version or could change based on user feedback.
Hiromi Wakai highlighted the importance of community feedback in shaping these updates. "Thanks to feedback from our PlayStation community, we’ve introduced many new features and refinements over the past few years to enhance your gaming experiences on PS5," Wakai stated. Sony is eager to gather feedback from beta participants and looks forward to bringing these new features to the global PS5 community soon.
Previous Update and New Features

This beta update follows the recent Version 24.05-09.60.00 update, which introduced the ability to invite other players to game sessions by sharing a URL to the session. To use this feature, open the game session action card, select Share Link, and scan the QR code with a mobile device to share the link. This feature, available only for open sessions, has already enhanced the social gaming experience on PS5, and the new beta update continues to build on this foundation with improved personalization and control.
