A former employee of Respawn Entertainment recently shared on LinkedIn that the studio has halted the development of an unnamed game this week. The project, which had been in the works for several years, was abruptly stopped without any explanation provided to the team. This news adds to the studio's recent history of project cancellations, following the termination of the arcade shooter codenamed Titanfall Legends last year.
Last year, gaming journalist Jeff Grubb revealed that the now-canceled project was not a mainline entry in the Titanfall series, thus ruling out the possibility of it being Titanfall 3. Respawn had assembled an "experimental team" specifically for this project, bringing on board experts skilled in developing multiplayer shooters.
The Titanfall series, which debuted in 2014, is renowned for its innovative mix of action and mech piloting. Players can engage in combat either as agile pilots or by controlling formidable Titans. The series has garnered a dedicated fanbase due to its distinctive gameplay, featuring parkour elements and intense team-based battles.
Currently, Respawn Entertainment is shifting its focus to other major projects. The studio is actively developing the third installment of the Star Wars Jedi series, alongside a new strategy game set within the Star Wars universe, which is being co-developed with Bit Reactor.
