Ubisoft is setting the sails for an ambitious Year 2 for Skull and Bones, aiming to make it the most expansive year yet for the pirate-themed multiplayer game. With a treasure trove of new content on the horizon, including new game modes, ships, the introduction of a Kraken, and the much-anticipated addition of land combat, Ubisoft is responding to player feedback and enriching the game's experience.
During a special Year 2 showcase that premiered yesterday, Ubisoft unveiled its roadmap for the coming year, brimming with exciting updates. The highlight is undoubtedly Season 3: Guts and Glory, set to launch this fall, which will finally bring the long-requested land combat to Skull and Bones. This feature, eagerly awaited since the game's debut last February, will allow players to engage in thrilling swordfights and firearms battles on land. As part of the Rogue Warlord update, players will explore sandy beaches and damp caves to recruit skilled Officers, enhancing their crew. A teaser video gave fans a glimpse of what to expect, but full details will be revealed later this year.
While land combat is the crown jewel of Year 2, Ubisoft has a fleet of other exciting additions planned. Kicking off today, April 15, Season 1: Ascent into Chaos introduces a new item ascension system to boost loot, challenging World Tiers, a new Schooner medium ship, and the team-based Death Tides PvP mode. Following in summer 2025, Season 2: Oaths of War will feature Megaforts and the imposing Frigate large ships. Finally, Season 4: Eye of the Beast, slated for this winter, will bring the mythical Kraken, the Hunter’s Guild, and the Corvette large ship into the fray.
If these updates sound appealing, you're in luck—Skull and Bones is hosting a free weekend from April 17 to 21, allowing players to dive into the pirate PvP action and experience the game firsthand. Additionally, the game will be available at a discounted price during this period, though the exact amount has not yet been disclosed.
Skull and Bones set sail on February 16, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S, receiving a 7/10 in our review. While Ubisoft has kept official sales figures under wraps, they did hint at achieving "record player engagement" shortly after launch. Interestingly, the release of Skull and Bones also saw a 200% surge in players for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, suggesting a renewed interest in pirate-themed adventures.
