Hazelight Games has announced that their latest co-op adventure, Split Fiction, is off to a phenomenal start, having sold 2 million copies within its first week on the market. Launched on March 6 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, the game has quickly established itself as another triumph for the studio. Hazelight expressed their gratitude and astonishment on social media, stating they are "blown away" by the overwhelming support from both new and returning fans.
Just 48 hours after its release, Split Fiction had already captivated 1 million players with its dual-protagonist sci-fi narrative centered around characters Mio and Zoe. This impressive figure doubled in the subsequent five days, demonstrating the game's rapid growth in popularity.
Given that Split Fiction is designed for co-op play, the actual number of players enjoying the game is likely much higher than the sales figures suggest. This is further enhanced by the Friend’s Pass feature, which allows one player to buy the game and share it with a friend at no extra charge. As the buzz around Split Fiction continues to grow on social media, it's clear that the game's reach and impact are set to expand even further.
Hazelight's previous title, 2021 Game of the Year winner It Takes Two, followed a similar trajectory. It sold around 1 million copies just weeks after its launch in March 2021, eventually reaching a staggering 10 million copies by February 2023 and 20 million by October 2024.
In IGN's Split Fiction review, the game was praised as “an expertly crafted co-op adventure that pinballs from one genre extreme to another,” highlighting its innovative approach to storytelling and gameplay.
