Ubisoft quietly launches a new NFT game: Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E. This article delves into the details of Ubisoft's latest foray into the NFT gaming space.
Ubisoft's Stealth NFT Release
Ubisoft's Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E., a top-down multiplayer arcade shooter, was revealed on December 20th, as reported by Eurogamer. The game's unique twist? Players need cryptocurrency to participate.
Based on Eden Online's website, the game expands the universe of the Netflix series, Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix, incorporating elements from popular Ubisoft franchises like Watch Dogs and Assassin's Creed.
The game features classic online competitive multiplayer but limits participation to 10,000 players. Access requires purchasing a Citizen ID Card NFT, a digital collectible that tracks in-game achievements and rankings, evolving based on player performance. These cards can also be traded.
To acquire a card, players must use a crypto wallet to purchase a Niji Warrior ID card from Ubisoft's designated page for approximately $25.63. Citizens can also choose to relinquish their citizenship and sell their ID cards.
The full game launch is slated for Q1 2025, according to Ubisoft's Magic Eden page, but early access is available to those who secured IDs early.
A Netflix Series Inspired by Far Cry 3's Blood Dragon
Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix, the Netflix series, is an animated spin-off of Far Cry 3's Blood Dragon DLC. Set in an alternate 1992 where the US is a megacorporation-controlled technocracy called Eden, the show follows Dolph Laserhawk, a supersoldier, as he navigates betrayal and missions for The Ghosts.
While Ubisoft hasn't detailed the game's narrative, it shares this universe, placing players as citizens under Eden's rule. Players influence the game's story through mission completion, leaderboard rankings, and community engagement.
