Mastering Weapon and Armor Upgrades in Avowed: A Comprehensive Guide
Progressing through Avowed introduces increasingly formidable enemies. To maintain combat effectiveness, upgrading your gear is crucial. This guide details how to enhance weapons and armor in Avowed.
Weapon and armor upgrades are performed at Workbenches (pictured above), located at Party Camps. These camps are established near Adra Waystones scattered throughout the world. Interact with a Waystone and select the option to set up camp. Camps are marked on your map with a tent icon and are fast-travel enabled. Upgrades require specific materials, varying by weapon/armor type and quality. Many materials are readily available or craftable, but upgrading between Qualities demands increasingly rare Adra.
Understanding Weapon and Armor Levels in Avowed
Avowed uses a two-pronged system for gear power: Quality and additional upgrade tiers. Quality is indicated by a numerical value, color rarity (Green, Blue, Purple, Red, Gold), and descriptive adjective. These correspond to enemy levels in the Living Lands. Gear with lower Quality than encountered enemies proves less effective. Conversely, matching or exceeding enemy Quality provides significant advantages.
Each Quality allows three additional upgrade levels (+0 to +3). While less impactful than Quality increases, these still boost stats. Crucially, all three + levels must be maxed before advancing to the next Quality.
Strategic Gear Upgrades: Prioritize Unique Items
Beyond Quality and additional levels, Avowed features standard and Unique gear. Standard gear is common loot or merchant fare, while Unique items (named, special items) are quest rewards, boss drops, or rare merchant offerings. Unique gear surpasses standard gear in upgrade potential (reaching Legendary Quality), inherent bonuses, and perks.
Therefore, prioritize upgrading Unique weapons and armor, reserving resources for these superior items. Standard gear serves as temporary equipment between finding and upgrading Unique pieces. Sell or dismantle unwanted standard gear for Skeyt or crafting materials.
Avowed is currently available on PC and Xbox.
