According to a recent Bloomberg report, Warner Bros. has canceled an unannounced paid DLC for the popular Harry Potter game, Hogwarts Legacy. The planned story expansion was slated to launch this year, alongside a "Definitive Edition" of the game. However, the decision to cancel came this week, with sources citing that the content volume did not justify the proposed price point. Warner Bros. did not respond to Bloomberg's request for comment on the matter.
This cancellation comes amidst a broader restructuring of Warner Bros.' gaming division, prompted by ongoing financial challenges. Earlier this year, the company made significant moves by canceling its planned Wonder Woman game and shutting down the developer, Monolith Productions, along with WB San Diego and the MultiVersus studio, Player First Games. Additionally, layoffs occurred at Rocksteady Studios just last September.
Despite these setbacks, Warner Bros. continues to emphasize the importance of Hogwarts Legacy and the Harry Potter franchise within its portfolio. The company has publicly stated that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is a top priority, aligning with its strategy to focus on fewer but larger franchises. The initial release of Hogwarts Legacy has been a massive success, selling over 30 million copies.
