Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana offers a fresh take on the classic Ys 3, making it an excellent starting point for newcomers. One of the early challenges players face is Dularn, but the real test comes with Ellefale, The Azure Queen of Death. It's crucial for players to keep their distance from this formidable boss, as close proximity increases the likelihood of getting hit by her powerful attacks.
Ellefale can withstand a significant amount of damage even on normal difficulty, and the challenge intensifies on higher settings. However, with the right strategy and the Ignis Bracelet, overcoming her is within reach.
How to Beat Ellefale, The Azure Queen of Death
To prepare for the battle with Ellefale, players should engage in some grinding to ensure their health exceeds 100. Utilizing Raval Ore to upgrade armor is an option, though it's advisable to reserve this resource for more substantial armor upgrades later in the game.
Rushing into the fight is ill-advised; Ellefale's position often places her just out of reach of melee attacks. Instead, utilize the Ignis Bracelet to shoot fireballs from a safe distance across the arena. Staying far away reduces the chance of getting hit by her devastating attacks, which can quickly drain your health bar.
Ellefale, The Azure Queen of Death Attacks
Ellefale's attacks can individually be manageable, but they restrict safe areas within the arena, making positioning crucial. She has four main attacks:
- A spinning disc attack
- A vertical slashing attack
- Multiple strikes of lightning
- A slow-moving spinning sphere
Spinning Disc
Ellefale's spinning disc attack launches from her position towards the player. It's impossible to outrun, so timing a jump to avoid it is essential. Jumping too early can result in landing on the disc, while jumping too late means taking damage before your jump clears it. This attack is telegraphed when Ellefale raises her right arm, adding intensity to the battle.
Vertical Slash
The vertical slash is easier to dodge; simply moving left or right will suffice. However, during sequences where Ellefale unleashes multiple attacks simultaneously, players may need to dodge this while also jumping over a spinning disc. This move is also signaled by Ellefale raising her right arm.
Lightning Strike
The lightning strike is one of Ellefale's most challenging attacks to evade. When she leans forward, it's a signal to charge forward. As she raises both arms, players should retreat to the opposite end of the arena and jump. Lightning beams will target the player, and moving or jumping towards Ellefale during this attack will result in a hit. Jumping while retreating ensures safety from the lightning.
Spinning Sphere
Ellefale's spinning sphere attack slowly advances towards the player, limiting safe movement areas. While easy to outrun on its own, it becomes dangerous when combined with other projectiles, potentially trapping the player. This move is telegraphed when Ellefale raises both her wings.
