Game Introduction

Over 150 Words for Ages 4 to 9, Learn Spelling in three modes.

The Kiwanis Club of New Kingston (KCNK) presents the renowned Primary & Prep school spelling Bee competition for young learners. This app is sponsored by Grace Kennedy Money Services (GKMS) and Western Union (WU).

The KCNK Little Bee Game can be played anywhere without an internet connection, featuring two learning modes and a competition mode. Each mode consists of 10 levels where words progressively increase in difficulty towards the end. Each Level includes 15 or more words to learn. The vocabulary for each level remains consistent across all modes.

In Settings, students can enter their name, age, parish, and school. They can choose from Learning Mode 1, Learning Mode 2, or Competition Mode.

Learning Mode 1:

Students can learn to spell a word by tapping each letter in the word, from left to right (from the first letter to the last). The KCNK Little Bee app pronounces the name of each letter aloud so children can repeat along. If a student makes a mistake, they can tap on it to undo their selection. To hear the word again, students can tap on the little bee icon at the top left of the screen. In this mode, students must spell each word correctly to proceed to the next one and complete all words in the level successfully. Students can redo any level at any time but must finish earlier levels before starting later ones.

Learning Mode 2:

Students are given the letters of each word in a jumbled (mixed-up) order and asked to spell the called word correctly. If they make a mistake, they can tap on it to undo their selection. To hear the word again, students can tap on the little bee icon at the top left of the screen. In this mode, students must spell each word correctly to move forward and complete all words in the level successfully. Students can redo any level at any time but must finish earlier levels before starting later ones.

Competition Mode:

Students are given the letters of each word in a jumbled (mixed-up) order with extra letters added (thrown in) and asked to spell the called word correctly. Each word is timed, and these times accumulate for their total level score. Students receive 10 random words from the pool designated for that level. The goal is to complete each level in the shortest amount of time possible. The leaderboard on the main page displays the time spent on each level.

Students can reset the game and start over from the Settings page. While playing, students should wait until a letter has finished being pronounced before selecting the next one. Students and parents are welcome to take screenshots of their leaderboards to share with teachers.
