Amazon's God of War TV series is generating significant buzz even before its premiere, with the streaming giant already committing to two full seasons. This news comes directly from the series' new showrunner, Ronald D. Moore, who took the helm following the exit of previous showrunner Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus.
In a recent interview with Katee Sackhoff, a fellow alum from the acclaimed series Battlestar Galactica, Moore shared insights into his current projects. "Right now, I'm working on an adaptation of a video game called God of War, a major title in the gaming world that Amazon has ordered two seasons of, and they've asked me to come in," he stated. "So I'm literally in the writer's room, working on that. That's my new thing."
Despite not being a seasoned gamer himself, Moore expressed a humorous struggle with video game controls, mentioning classics like Defender, Asteroids, and Centipede. He quipped, "'Press R1.' Which one's R1? Oh, I'm dead," highlighting his unfamiliarity with modern gaming controllers. Nevertheless, Moore has taken on the roles of writer, executive producer, and showrunner for the God of War series, bringing his extensive experience from projects like Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and the 2000s Battlestar Galactica to the table.
While the departure of some original team members marks a transition, Sony's Cory Barlog remains involved as an executive producer. The series will be rooted in the narrative of the 2018 God of War game, though further details remain sparse at this stage.
Amazon's track record of quickly renewing successful video game adaptations, such as the Fallout TV show and Secret Level, suggests a promising future for the God of War series on their streaming platform. Fans of the iconic game can look forward to seeing how this epic saga unfolds on screen.
