In a world brimming with video games, finding a truly unique title can be a challenge. My Father Lied, however, stands out with its captivating narrative and intriguing blend of mystery and Lovecraftian elements. This puzzle adventure game boasts a compelling backstory, as detailed below.
My Father Lied: An Indie Developer's Vision
The game's creation story is fascinating. Ahmed Alameen, the developer, wasn't initially aiming for a career in game development. In 2020, he was establishing himself as a writer and filmmaker. A college friend initially suggested a collaborative game project, but that venture dissolved, leaving the concept unrealized.
Alameen, however, couldn't abandon the story he envisioned. He embarked on a solo journey, teaching himself 3D modeling and Unreal Engine to bring his vision to life. Even the game's title resulted from a collaborative brainstorming session with his wife.
Unraveling the Game's Mystery
The game itself plunges players into a mystery steeped in ancient Mesopotamian myths, filled with secrets, puzzles, and unexpected twists.
Players assume the role of Huda, a young woman grappling with a twenty-year-old question: What happened to her father? The answer, as the story unfolds, proves far from straightforward.
Drawing inspiration from 7,000 years of Mesopotamian culture, My Father Lied skillfully blends ancient lore with contemporary storytelling. The puzzles are straightforward point-and-click affairs, avoiding complex controls, and are complemented by stunning 2D visuals and 360-degree imagery.
