In Path of Exile 2, much like other action RPGs, you'll encounter various ways to enhance your character's power. Some methods are straightforward, while others require deeper exploration. One such mechanic is anointing, which allows you to imbue your amulets and Waystones with powerful abilities. Let’s dive into how to anoint effectively.

Anointing becomes available later in the game, as it requires Distilled Emotions. These can be obtained from Delirium Maps, similar to how Blight Oils functioned in the original Path of Exile. There are ten types of Distilled Emotions: Despair, Disgust, Envy, Fear, Greed, Guilt, Ire, Isolation, Paranoia, and Suffering.
The primary method to acquire Distilled Emotions is through Delirium Maps. Upon completing a map, you'll receive a random selection of these emotions. Alternatively, you can obtain them via currency exchange or the trade market.
If you wish to upgrade Distilled Emotions, head to the Reforging Bench. Combining three of the same type grants you an upgraded version of that emotion, giving you greater control over the outcomes.
For a more challenging approach, Simulacrum waves occasionally drop Distilled Emotions. While this method is less efficient than Delirium Maps, it offers a rewarding experience for skilled players.

How To Anoint Items in Path of Exile 2
You can anoint both Waystones and amulets. However, given the game is still in Early Access, additional anointing options may be introduced in future updates. To anoint an amulet, select a Distilled Emotion to activate the Instilling window. It doesn’t matter which emotion you choose initially.
Place the amulet in the central box and fill the three bottom boxes with Distilled Emotions. The specific emotions required depend on the passive skill you wish to anoint, visible in the Passive Skill Tree when hovering over a Notable Passive Skill and pressing Alt (keyboard) or R3 (controller).

Keep in mind that the skills you anoint will vary based on your build. Additionally, this effect isn’t permanent—you can overwrite the current anointment by repeating the process. This flexibility lets you adapt your amulet to suit your evolving build.
A similar process applies to Waystones, but anointing them increases their difficulty while offering better loot rewards. Note that you cannot anoint corrupted items, whether they’re Waystones or amulets.
