Ubisoft Adjusts Plans for Assassin's Creed and Prince of Persia Franchises
Ubisoft has announced several changes impacting its upcoming Assassin's Creed Shadows and its recently released Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. These decisions follow a challenging period for the company's game releases.
Assassin's Creed Shadows: Early Access Cancelled and Collector's Edition Price Reduced
Ubisoft has confirmed the cancellation of the early access period for Assassin's Creed Shadows, originally planned for those who purchased the Collector's Edition. This follows a delay of the game's official launch to February 14, 2025, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The decision, according to reports, is due to ongoing efforts to ensure historical accuracy and cultural sensitivity.
Further, Ubisoft has reduced the price of the Assassin's Creed Shadows Collector's Edition from $280 to $230. The revised edition still includes the artbook, steelbook, figurine, and other previously announced items. Rumors persist about a potential co-op mode featuring the antagonists Naoe and Yasuke, though this remains unconfirmed. Season passes for the game have also been scrapped.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown Development Team Dissolved
In a surprising move, Ubisoft has disbanded the Ubisoft Montpellier team responsible for Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. Despite positive critical reception, the decision stems from the game's failure to meet sales expectations, according to reports.
Senior producer Abdelhak Elguess stated that the team is proud of their work and expressed confidence in the game's long-term success. He confirmed that the post-launch content roadmap, including three free updates and a DLC, is complete. The team's focus now shifts to expanding the game's reach to new platforms, including a Mac release planned for this winter. Ubisoft reiterated its commitment to the Prince of Persia franchise, hinting at future projects.
