Assassin’s Creed Shadows: Max Level and Rank Cap Revealed

Author : Natalie Apr 09,2025

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows* stands out as one of the most expansive entries in the franchise, boasting a sophisticated progression system that complements its vast scope. Let's dive into the details of the max levels in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows* and understand how the level cap functions.

What Is the Max XP Level in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows* introduces a fresh take on progression within the series. Although the game primarily focuses on the new Knowledge Ranks for skill unlocks, it retains a traditional XP-based progression system. By advancing your XP in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, you'll unlock access to higher-tier weapons, armor, and gear, and enhance the base stats of Naoe and Yasuke.

While reaching Level 35 is sufficient to explore all of Japan's provinces within the game, the XP journey can extend well beyond this point. Initially, Ubisoft suggested a Level Cap of 40, but players can actually push their level all the way to 60. It's also anticipated that the level cap might be raised further with the upcoming Claws of Awaji expansion for *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*.

In *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, the Knowledge Rank system marks a significant evolution in the franchise's progression mechanics. Distinct from the XP leveling system, Knowledge Ranks advance through earning Knowledge Points via various open-world activities focused on mindfulness and training. As you progress through these ranks, new skills become available for Naoe and Yasuke, though unlocking them requires spending Mastery Points.

To access every skill for unlocking, players must reach Knowledge Rank 6. However, this isn't the end of the journey. Upon reaching this rank, Naoe and Yasuke will unlock a new Knowledge tree, offering several passive skills to further customize your preferred playstyle.

Is There a Cap for Mastery in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

Mastery represents the third pillar of progression in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, serving as the equivalent to skill points. To unlock new skills across the various Mastery trees, players must spend Mastery Points, with some skills requiring more points than others.

With six Mastery trees available for each protagonist, there's a wealth of skills to unlock. Fortunately, Mastery Points can be earned through a wide range of activities, ensuring ample opportunities to gather the points needed. While theoretically, players could reach a limit of Mastery Points, achieving this would require extensive engagement with the game's content. The forthcoming Claws of Awaji expansion, set for release in 2025, is expected to introduce new ways to earn Mastery.

Does Assassin’s Creed Shadows Have Level Scaling?

In *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, each Japanese province comes with a designated level. The highest initial level requirement is for Kii, at Level 35. As you progress and increase your XP level, the difficulty of certain regions will scale to match your level.

However, there's a cap on how high the levels for enemies and overall province difficulty will scale beyond Level 40. From Level 42 onward, the recommended level for each province remains two levels below your current XP level. This system ensures the game remains challenging and maintains a suitable combat pace in the endgame, while rewarding players who invest significant time into the game.

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows is available now on PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.*
