The player count for Monster Hunter Wilds has seen a significant drop, bringing it closer to Monster Hunter World's numbers. Read on to discover more about this decline and the game's first major collaboration.
Monster Hunter Wilds Sees a Sharp Drop in Player Count
From Over One Million to Just 40,000

Monster Hunter Wilds launched as one of this year's most popular titles, becoming Capcom's fastest-selling game. However, player engagement has cooled significantly since its spectacular debut, with concurrent player numbers declining sharply three months after release.
As noted by Monster Hunter YouTuber Zenny, MH Wilds' concurrent player count has been cut in half since May, now approaching the figures of the older series entry, MH World. SteamDB data shows MH Wilds with a 24-hour peak of 41,101 players, edging closer to MH World's 26,479 at the time of writing.
For comparison, MH World maintained over 100,000 concurrent players during its third month on Steam, significantly surpassing MH Wilds' current 40,000. Many players attribute this decline to MH Wilds' limited endgame content, despite the release of Title Update 1. The upcoming second Title Update this summer may revitalize the player base with new monsters, events, and additional features.
MH Wilds Teases Street Fighter Collaboration
Another potential draw for returning players is a collaboration with Capcom's legendary fighting franchise, Street Fighter. In a May 19 post on X (formerly Twitter), Monster Hunter shared an image of a paw print designed in Street Fighter 6's distinctive urban aesthetic.
While nothing has been officially confirmed, such a collaboration would not be surprising given the franchises' previous crossover in MH World. That event featured Ryu and Sakura armor sets, paid DLC including Hadoken and Shoryuken gestures, the Handler's Chun-Li costume, and more.

This would mark MH Wilds' first major collaboration, and fans are eager to see how Capcom handles the crossover. The Monster Hunter series has a rich history of collaborations with various IPs, including Devil May Cry and Sonic in MH4, Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem in MH Generations Ultimate, and Assassin's Creed and Mega Man in MH World, among many others.
Despite the current dip, many expect MH Wilds' player numbers to rebound with the new content scheduled for the remainder of the year and beyond. Monster Hunter Wilds is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. For the latest updates on Monster Hunter Wilds, check out our article below!
