Bandai Namco has delivered bittersweet news for mobile gamers - the company is sunsetting PAC-MAN Mobile, coincidentally during the franchise's 45th anniversary celebration. This particular mobile iteration launched over ten years ago, offering nostalgic gameplay to millions.
PAC-MAN Mobile Shutdown Timeline
The official termination date for PAC-MAN Mobile is set for May 30, 2025. The developer has already removed in-app purchase functionality as of April 1st. Dedicated players can continue enjoying the game until the shutdown date.
The community has voiced significant disappointment that Bandai Namco isn't transitioning to an offline version, which many believe could have maintained revenue streams while preserving access to this beloved title.
Originally released as PAC-MAN + Tournaments, this version offered much more than classic arcade nostalgia. Alongside the traditional 8-bit experience, it featured:
- Story Mode with numerous original mazes
- Adventure Mode with limited-time events and exclusive cosmetics
- Tournament Mode offering weekly challenges across three difficulty levels
Why the Shutdown?
Technical issues have plagued the mobile title in recent years, with accumulating bugs likely influencing the decision to retire the app permanently rather than invest in substantial updates.
Longtime players reminisce about the game's early days when leaderboard competition and high-score chasing created an engaged community. Those wanting a final opportunity to experience this mobile adaptation can still download it from the Google Play Store before May 30.
