This guide helps you befriend the mysterious Dwarf in Stardew Valley. While initially silent, befriending him unlocks unique interactions and rewards. This guide is updated for recent game versions (January 8, 2024), reflecting changes to friendship mechanics introduced in updates 1.5 and 1.6.
Finding the Dwarf:
Located in the mines, just right of the first floor entrance, a large boulder hides the Dwarf's shop. Destroy it with a copper pickaxe or bomb to reveal his hidden dwelling.
Unlocking Communication:
The Dwarf speaks Dwarvish. To understand him, donate all four Dwarf Scrolls to the museum. Gunther will then reward you with a Dwarvish translation guide.
Gifting:
Gifts are key to building friendship. You can give two gifts per week. His birthday (Summer 22nd) doubles the friendship points earned from gifts.

Disliked/Hated Gifts (Friendship Point Loss): Avoid all foraged items (mushrooms, etc.), and universally hated gifts (excluding artifacts).
Movie Theater Dates:
Once the Movie Theater is built, invite the Dwarf. He loves all movies but is picky about snacks. He loves Stardrop Sorbet and Rock Candy, and likes Cotton Candy, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jawbreaker, Salmon Burger, Sour Slimes, and Star Cookie. Avoid other concessions.
