PlayStation has officially confirmed today's special State of Play event dedicated entirely to Borderlands 4. Their April 29 Twitter/X announcement revealed the showcase will premiere April 30 at:
- 2 PM Pacific Time
- 5 PM Eastern Time
- 10 PM British Time
- 11 PM Central European Time
During this presentation, Gearbox Software developers will provide an extensive look at the upcoming FPS sequel. According to PlayStation Blog details from April 29, the event will feature:
- Over 20 minutes of developer commentary
- In-depth gameplay demonstrations
- Showcase of explosive new weaponry
- Reveals of upgraded Action Skills
- Introductions to both fresh and familiar characters
Release Date Advanced to September 12
Following the State of Play news, Gearbox Entertainment CEO Randy Pitchford shared significant release date updates via Twitter/X on April 29. In a subsequently deleted video (which he explained was posted prematurely), Pitchford announced accelerated development progress has allowed them to push Borderlands 4's launch forward to September 12.
Originally revealed with a September 23 release date during February's PlayStation State of Play, Borderlands 4's official Twitter/X later confirmed the new September 12 launch window. Their statement cited:
- Extensive testing and optimization
- Development milestone achievements
- Team collaboration successes
The official announcement declared: "After comprehensive evaluation—supported by countless meetings, rigorous playtesting, and outstanding development progress—we're thrilled to announce Borderlands 4 will now launch EARLIER on SEPTEMBER 12."
Gearbox Software pledges this installment will surpass all previous Borderlands experiences. With the accelerated release schedule, players gain earlier access to the chaotic new planet of Kairos.
