Choosing Your Path in Citizen Sleeper 2: A Class Comparison
At the outset of Citizen Sleeper 2, you'll face a crucial decision: selecting your character's class – Operator, Machinist, or Extractor. This guide breaks down each class, helping you choose the best fit for your playstyle and roleplaying preferences.
Operator
The Operator begins with a bonus in Interface, foundational levels in Intuit and Engage, and no Engineer skills. Endure is unavailable for leveling. Their unique ability lets them trade Stress for a re-roll of their lowest die.
While powerful later on, the Operator can feel challenging early in the game. The Interface skill is valuable, but the re-roll ability isn't a guaranteed success. Roleplaying-wise, the Operator offers versatility, fitting various character concepts.
Machinist
The Machinist starts with a bonus in Engineer, base levels in Interface and Intuit, and lacks Endure skills. Engage is also unlevelable. Their ability allows a Stress expenditure to add +2 to their lowest die, further enhanced as the game progresses, with Stress reduction on positive outcomes.
The Machinist proved a favorite in my playthrough. The ability is exceptionally useful for overcoming difficult situations. The starting skills address common skill shortages, and the Stress reduction is a significant advantage, mitigating a major game challenge. Mechanically inclined players will appreciate this class.
Extractor
The Extractor begins with a bonus in Endure, base levels in Engineer and Engage, and no Interface. Intuit is unlevelable. Their ability allows them to spend Stress to add +2 to their crew's lowest die, upgradable for greater crew boosts.
The Extractor's ability is highly effective for mitigating contract risks. The Endure bonus is also beneficial, given the game's frequent Endure checks. However, the abundance of crew members with Endure and Engage might lead to skill redundancy. This class suits players who enjoy a more physically focused, "bruiser" style.
Ultimately, the optimal Citizen Sleeper 2 class depends on individual preferences. Consider your preferred playstyle and character archetype when making your selection.
