Nintendo is thrilled to announce the grand opening of its San Francisco store today, May 15, located at 331 Powell Street in the bustling Union Square. This marks the second official Nintendo store in the United States, following the success of the New York location. Originally known as the Nintendo World Store, the New York outlet underwent renovations and rebranding, reopening as Nintendo NY in 2016. The San Francisco store represents Nintendo's first venture on the West Coast, showcasing the company's commitment to expanding its retail presence across the country.
IGN had the opportunity to visit the new San Francisco store and explore what Nintendo has in store for its fans. In addition to the store tour, IGN sat down with Nintendo of America's president, Doug Bowser, to discuss the timing and strategy behind opening their first West Coast store.
During the interview, the conversation naturally turned to the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2, set to launch on June 5. IGN took the chance to ask Bowser about the availability of the Switch 2 in the U.S. at launch and beyond, as well as the controversial Game-Key Cards and other related topics.
