The Exit 8 has now made its way to Android devices, offering a unique blend of elements for just $3.99. Developed by Kotake Create and published by Playism, this game is a walking simulator with a twist, enveloping players in an eerie atmosphere that challenges every step they take.
A Creepy Walking Adventure
In The Exit 8, players navigate through what appears to be an endless underground passageway reminiscent of a Japanese metro station. You find yourself trapped in a loop where everything from the tiles and lights to posters and the solitary figure walking towards you repeats incessantly. The core challenge lies in spotting anomalies—subtle or stark changes like a poster with a different image, flickering lights, or even a river of blood instead of a floor. The game's mechanics revolve around recognizing these changes swiftly and reacting appropriately.
If you notice something unusual, you must turn back. If not, continue forward. The objective is to reach the eighth exit without making any mistakes, which means correctly identifying and responding to eight consecutive anomalies. Fail, and you're back to square one.
The Exit 8 Lets You Soak in a Surreal, Unsettling Atmosphere
The game's design draws inspiration from the concept of liminal spaces and the Backrooms, with its setting modeled after real Japanese metro stations such as Kiyosumi-Shirakawa Station in Tokyo. This influence is evident in the claustrophobic corridors and repetitive architecture that players traverse. The Exit 8 actively engages you with your environment, urging you to scrutinize every detail for signs of danger or shifts in reality. The constant questioning of your memory and perception ensures that each playthrough feels uniquely unsettling.
Originally launched on PC in November 2023, it took Kotake Create approximately nine months to develop The Exit 8. Following its release, the game amassed 1.4 million downloads worldwide on Steam. Now available on mobile, you can download it from the Google Play Store.
