No Connection Between FF14 Collaboration and FF9 Remake, Said Yoshida
Naoki Yoshida, the renowned producer and director of Final Fantasy 14, has recently addressed the ongoing speculation about a potential Final Fantasy 9 remake. This clarification follows the recent FF14 collaboration event, which included nods to the cherished 1999 Japanese role-playing game, Final Fantasy 9.
The online community speculated that the FF14 event might signal an upcoming remake announcement. However, Yoshida has firmly dispelled these rumors, highlighting the independent nature of the collaboration.
"The original concept for Final Fantasy XIV was to serve as a theme park for the Final Fantasy franchise," Yoshida explained in an interview with JPGames. "Our decision to incorporate Final Fantasy IX stemmed from that idea."
He further clarified that the timing of the collaboration was not influenced by any remake project. "We never considered Final Fantasy IX in relation to a remake from a commercial perspective," he stated, acknowledging the logical basis for the speculation.
Despite debunking the connection between the FF14 event and a remake, Yoshida's enthusiasm for Final Fantasy 9 was evident. "Many on our development team are huge fans of Final Fantasy IX," he shared.
He also highlighted the extensive content in the original game. "Final Fantasy IX is a massive game with a huge volume of content. If we were waiting for a remake project, we'd be waiting indefinitely, wondering when we could incorporate its essence and pay homage to it," he noted.
