The beloved Sony franchise, Killzone, has been on hiatus for quite some time, leaving fans eager for its return. Recently, Joris de Man, the composer behind the series' iconic soundtracks, shared his thoughts on a potential revival during an interview with VideoGamer for the PlayStation: The Concert Tour. De Man expressed his hope for the franchise's comeback, acknowledging the existence of fan petitions and the challenges that come with reviving such a series.
"I know that there have been petitions for it," de Man remarked. "I think it's tricky because, I can't speak for Guerrilla or anything... I don't know if it will ever happen. I hope it will because I think it is quite an iconic franchise, but I also think it kind of has to take into account the sensitivities and the shift in, I guess, what people want because it is quite bleak in some ways."
When it comes to the form a Killzone revival might take, de Man suggested that a remastered collection could be more feasible than a completely new entry. "I think a remastered one would be successful, I don't know if a new game would be as much," he stated. "I don't know if people have moved on from it and want something. I don't know sometimes I get the sense that people want something a bit more casual, a bit more quick."
The Killzone series is known for its slower-paced, weightier gameplay compared to fast-paced shooters like Call of Duty. Killzone 2, in particular, was noted for its input lag on the PlayStation 3, which affected its responsiveness. The franchise is celebrated for its dark, gritty visuals and atmosphere, which set it apart from other games in the genre.
In a recent interview with the Washington Post, it was hinted that Guerrilla, the Sony-owned developer behind Killzone, has shifted its focus to the Horizon series, suggesting a move away from the franchise. Despite this, it's been over a decade since the release of Killzone Shadow Fall, and the prospect of a Killzone revival—or even a return of another PlayStation shooter—continues to captivate fans. While the future remains uncertain, de Man's support adds another voice to the chorus of those hoping to see Killzone back in action.
