Death Stranding 2 Unveils New Cameos with More on the Way!
Hololive VTuber Pekora Joins as a Prepper
Death Stranding 2 (DS2) is continuing to expand its impressive cast with the inclusion of Hololive VTuber Usada Pekora. Kojima Productions announced via Twitter (X) on May 29 that Pekora will appear in-game as a Prepper, an NPC character who lives in seclusion.
Usada Pekora is a widely popular Japanese VTuber under Hololive Production. She is a member of Hololive Japan's third generation, known as "hololive fantasy." Currently, she ranks as the fourth most-subscribed Hololive VTuber, boasting over 2.7 million subscribers.
The reveal included a brief clip showing Pekora greeting the player upon exiting a Prepper Shelter, a bunker-like structure where Preppers reside. Her specific role remains a mystery, as the announcement states, "What kind of Prepper could she be…? Find out after the game launches!"

This isn't the first interaction between Kojima Productions and the Japanese VTuber, as Pekora visited their studio last year. Death Stranding creator Hideo Kojima even shared a photo with Pekora on Twitter last August, showing both giving a thumbs-up next to a Ludens statue, the studio's iconic mascot.
Pekora responded with a tweet, thanking the studio for a wonderful experience. While fans were initially curious about the reason behind the meeting, they are now thrilled to see her in the game. Kojima himself is an admirer of Pekora and has previously posted tweets about watching her livestreams. Given Hololive's massive fanbase, this collaboration presents an excellent opportunity for Kojima Productions to attract a broader audience to its new release.
More Celebrity Cameos Are Expected

It appears DS2 will feature even more celebrity appearances, as Kojima suggested during the latest episode of the KojiPro podcast. He mentioned that many individuals were scanned for the game, but approximately half had to be declined due to storage limitations.
As translated by Genki Gamer, Kojima explained that most of these were for Prepper roles, while others represented more powerful characters. Many also provided voice recordings. No official list of celebrity cameos has been released yet, so fans will need to wait until the game launches to see the full roster.

Furthermore, this isn't the first time the studio has incorporated celebrities into a game. The original Death Stranding included numerous famous figures, such as talk show host and comedian Conan O'Brien as "The Wandering MC," legendary Japanese horror manga artist Junji Ito as "The Engineer," and video game journalist and The Game Awards host Geoff Keighley as "The Ludens Fan," among others.
With the game's launch approaching, fans can anticipate more details and potentially additional cameo announcements. Death Stranding 2: On The Beach is scheduled for release on June 26, 2025, for PlayStation 5.
