Despite the strict non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) imposed on participants to prevent leaks about EA's upcoming untitled Battlefield game, the information has still found its way online. Numerous videos and screenshots have surfaced, showcasing the experiences of those involved in the closed playtesting. These leaks have confirmed the modern setting hinted at by Vince Zampella, setting it apart from previous entries in the franchise. A brief look at the Battlefield subreddit reveals a variety of intense firefights, glimpses of the game's destructible environments, and new gameplay mechanics such as the ability to hang off vehicles and drag wounded teammates to safety.
What stands out, however, is EA's apparent lack of effort to curb these leaks. Typically, game publishers are quick to take down unauthorized early footage to avoid showcasing incomplete animations, unfinished UI, and subpar graphics. Yet, despite players breaching their confidentiality agreements by sharing videos and screenshots, EA has not issued any takedown notices.
This relaxed stance might be influenced by the positive reception to the leaked content, unlike the lukewarm response to Battlefield 2042. Fans have expressed their enthusiasm, with one player stating, "I am scared to say that but this game is shaping up very damn well. I hope there are no catches…" Another added, "The animations of the weapons moving around while running / doing anything look better than 2042 to me." Enthusiasm continued with comments like, "Dude, even in a pre-alpha state, the explosions, bullets, and projectiles whizzing by, buildings crumbling down, dust kicking up. This has so much potential!" and "I can't get over how good the sounds and the destruction look at alpha."
EA has set expectations for the next Battlefield game to be released within the fiscal year 2026, which spans from April 2025 to March 2026. Following the first official unveiling just last month, it's confirmed that the game will feature a return to a traditional, single-player, linear campaign, a feature that was notably absent in the multiplayer-focused Battlefield 2042, much to the delight of fans.
