The highly anticipated Lunar Remastered Collection is set to launch on April 18th, bringing the classic JRPG duology to modern platforms. Developed by Game Arts and published by GungHo Online Entertainment, this collection will be available on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC (with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S compatibility).
This remaster offers a comprehensive update, boasting fully voiced dialogue in Japanese and English, along with newly added French and German subtitles. Players can enjoy enhanced visuals, including widescreen support, revamped pixel art, and high-definition cutscenes. For purists, a classic mode faithfully recreates the original PS1-era graphics. Further enhancing gameplay are quality-of-life features such as faster combat and auto-battle options.
The collection includes several modern conveniences, such as a speed-up combat command and streamlined party management for auto-battle, features now common in remasters of older JRPGs. Physical copies will be available in select North American and European stores.
The announcement, initially made during a 2024 Sony State of Play, surprised and delighted fans of the original Sega CD and PlayStation releases. The Lunar series, renowned for its innovative gameplay and compelling narrative, is considered a landmark title in JRPG history, particularly its Sega Saturn iteration. This remaster follows a successful pattern established by the Grandia HD Collection, suggesting a positive outlook for this new release. While its ultimate commercial success remains to be seen, the Lunar Remastered Collection promises a nostalgic yet modernized experience for both longtime fans and newcomers alike.
