Tidepool Games has launched a thrilling new game on Android that's sure to catch the eye of fans of fast-paced action and pixel art. Called MageTrain, this game will feel familiar if you've ever played Nimble Quest, as it draws heavy inspiration from it.
What’s MageTrain Like?
MageTrain combines elements of Snake, auto-battlers, and roguelikes into a unique gameplay experience. You control a line of heroes that follow you in a snake-like formation, each attacking automatically as you navigate through arenas. Your task is to strategically manage the positioning of your heroes within the train, as their abilities vary based on their position. Whether leading the charge or supporting from the back, each hero's role is crucial.
At launch, MageTrain features nine heroes, including one that throws birds, each with unique skills that depend on their placement in the formation. The game offers eight different dungeons, 28 enemy types, and 30 skills to enhance your team. Along the way, you'll collect gold and power-ups, adding layers of strategy to your gameplay.
The roguelike structure ensures that no two runs are the same. You'll navigate through branching paths, make choices on upgrades, and strive to survive as long as possible. This setup is reminiscent of games like Slay the Spire or FTL, where levels aren't fixed, and progress isn't saved. If you crash into an obstacle or get overwhelmed by enemies, you'll need to start over.
It Isn’t Slow-Paced
The excitement of MageTrain comes from the constant improvement you experience with each playthrough. Even when you don't win, you learn more about when to play defensively, when to go all out offensively, and when to simply hold on for another half-minute of gameplay.
MageTrain is now available on Android and is free to play. You can download it from the Google Play Store and dive into the action right away.
