During today's Mario Kart World Direct, we received exciting updates on the game's innovative Free Roam mode, which promises to enhance the multiplayer experience and offer a new way to explore Mario Kart World's expansive world.
Although we had the chance to go hands-on with Mario Kart World last week, it wasn't until today that we got a detailed look at the Free Roam mode. This new feature allows players to freely explore a vast, open-world map reminiscent of Forza Horizon. Unlike previous Mario Kart games, where race tracks are isolated and only accessible during races, Mario Kart World integrates tracks into its open world. This means players can drive from one track to another in certain game modes and enjoy the areas in between.Free Roam mode offers a mini-adventure when you're not racing. The world is filled with hidden collectibles, such as coins and ? panels, though the specific benefits of collecting these items remain a mystery. Additionally, scattered P-Switches can be activated to trigger small challenges, like collecting blue coins.
Moreover, Free Roam mode includes a Photo Mode, allowing players to capture photos of their racers in various poses and angles at any time. This mode isn't limited to solo play; you can explore the world with friends. Free Roam supports up to four players on the same system via split-screen, and up to eight players total through local wireless play, with two players per system.
Today's Mario Kart World Direct also showcased new characters, courses, and additional modes. For a comprehensive overview of all the announcements, you can catch up on everything revealed right here.
