MultiVersus to Conclude Operations After Season 5

Warner Bros. Games has announced the impending closure of MultiVersus, effective May 30, 2025. The upcoming fifth season will be the game's last. This news was revealed via the official MultiVersus Twitter (X) account on January 31, 2025, and subsequently detailed in a blog post on the game's website. Player First Games and Warner Bros. stated that Season 5 will be the final content update.

Season 5: A Farewell Update

Season 5, running from February 4, 2025, to May 30, 2025, will introduce two new playable characters: Aquaman (DC) and Lola Bunny (Looney Tunes). These characters, along with all other Season 5 content, will be unlockable through gameplay. Following the conclusion of Season 5, MultiVersus will be removed from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store. No official reason for the shutdown has been provided.

A local gameplay mode will allow offline play, either solo against AI or with up to three friends. To access this, players must download the latest version of MultiVersus between February 4th, 9 AM PST, and May 30th, 9 AM PDT. Upon logging in, a local save file will be created, preserving earned and purchased content linked to the player's account.

Real-money transactions ceased on January 31, 2025. Remaining Gleamium (in-game currency) can be used until the end of Season 5.

MultiVersus launched its public beta in July 2022, quickly gaining popularity as a free-to-play platform fighter. Following a relaunch in May 2024 with significant updates, including new characters and rollback netcode, the game faced ongoing challenges, including technical issues and player count decline.

At its closure, MultiVersus will boast a roster of 35 playable characters. Player First Games and Warner Bros. expressed gratitude for the community's support. The game will remain available for download until May 30, 2025, on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
