Netflix has recently made significant adjustments to its gaming strategy, which includes dropping several anticipated titles from its mobile gaming lineup. If you were eagerly awaiting the release of games like Don’t Starve Together, Tales of the Shire, Compass Point: West, Lab Rat, Rotwood, or Thirsty Suitors on Netflix Games, you might be disappointed to learn that these titles have been removed.
Six Games Missing from Netflix's Lineup
The streaming giant is refining its gaming portfolio, and these six games didn't meet the criteria. This isn't the first instance of Netflix pulling games; Crashlands 2 was another title that was dropped even after beta testing had begun in some areas. This move indicates a broader shift in Netflix's gaming strategy, with a focus now on narrative-driven games and titles linked to their popular series and movies, such as the upcoming additions to Netflix Stories featuring shows like Ginny & Georgia and Sweet Magnolias.
What Happens to the Promised Games?
Fortunately, most of these games are still making their way to other platforms. Don’t Starve Together, initially set to be the first mobile version of the cooperative survival game, was announced in June 2024 as part of a Klei Entertainment trio coming to Netflix. However, it will now be ported to mobile by Playdigious. The other two Klei titles, Lab Rat and Rotwood, have also been removed from Netflix's plans, though Rotwood remains available in early access on Steam.
Tales of the Shire: A Lord of the Rings Game, a cozy life simulation, was slated for a fall 2024 release but has been delayed to early 2025. The disappearance of the Netflix Games logo from its website confirms that it won't be part of Netflix's offerings anymore.
Compass Point: West, developed by Next Games—a company owned by Netflix—was one of the earliest announced titles for the platform, making its cancellation particularly notable. Thirsty Suitors, a stylish, story-driven RPG by Outerloop Games and published by Annapurna Interactive, was also meant to come to mobile through Netflix but has been dropped from the lineup.
