Square Enix Announces Special NieR 15th Anniversary Novel

Square Enix marked the 15th anniversary of the NieR series with a series of announcements covering new franchise events and creative ventures. During the anniversary livestream on April 19, the company introduced a new online special novel titled [U]ndecided Option.
The novel will roll out across three separate updates. The first chapter is already out, with the next two set for release on April 25 and May 2 respectively. A short preview describes the story as: “A 'servant' encounters a mysterious boy with a peculiar presence and receives guidance.”
Together with the novel, Square Enix launched a dedicated 15th anniversary website that will serve as the central hub for the online novel and future anniversary-related projects and events.
Exhibitions, Concerts, Merchandise & More
An exclusive exhibition will take place at Sunshine City in Ikebukuro, Japan, showcasing new official artwork of the main characters from NieR Replicant, Automata, and Re[in]carnation. Details concerning tickets and further information will be shared at a later time.
Additional show dates have been scheduled for the NieR: Orchestra Concert 12024 in Osaka on July 25–26 and in Tokyo on August 2–3. Tickets are currently available through a lottery system; visit the official concert website for more information.
The stream also previewed a wide variety of upcoming merchandise, including a studio album featuring new jazz arrangements from the NieR: Dinner Show – Somethin’ or Other 12024 event in December 2024, the NieR Weapon Story book with over 650 in-universe stories tied to weapons from Replicant, Automata, and Re[in]carnation, and scaled figures of the series' protagonists.
Re[in]carnation Developer Blog Launch

NieR Re[in]carnation, the franchise’s first mobile title, will begin a developer blog series starting April 28. Monthly updates will continue for the rest of the year, offering behind-the-scenes insights into the game’s development process.
Originally launched in January 2021, the mobile game ended service in April 2024 amid monetization challenges. Fans remain curious about the decision to launch a developer blog for a game that is no longer operational, sparking speculation around a possible sequel or remake—though no official announcements have been made.
The livestream concluded with a live 20-minute performance, featuring beloved soundtracks from across the NieR series. Square Enix confirmed that more events and merchandise announcements are still to come, ensuring plenty of excitement for NieR fans in the months ahead.
